Activated Carbon Adsorption Equipment
Activated Carbon Adsorption Equipment is used to treat gas streams by passing contaminated air through a bed of activated carbon. The porous carbon media retains certain organic compounds and other adsorbable substances from the gas phase as the air moves through the adsorption chamber.
The equipment typically includes an adsorption housing, carbon support layer, activated carbon media, gas inlet and outlet, sealing components, and access openings. A gas distribution structure directs the incoming air across the adsorption bed to promote consistent contact between the gas and carbon material.
Activated carbon can be supplied in granular, pelletized, or other forms. The selection of carbon type depends on the target compounds, concentration, humidity, temperature, airflow rate, and required adsorption capacity. Bed depth and contact time are also important factors in determining the adsorption performance.
During operation, adsorbed compounds gradually accumulate within the carbon media. When the adsorption capacity approaches its operating limit, the carbon can be removed and replaced or regenerated where the equipment is designed for regeneration.
The equipment can be configured as a single adsorption chamber or as multiple chambers connected in parallel or series. Inspection ports, pressure monitoring points, and access doors can be incorporated to facilitate checking and replacement of the adsorption media.
