Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP)

Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP) is an electrostatic gas treatment device used to collect fine particulate matter, acid mist, oil mist, and liquid droplets from industrial exhaust gas. WESP combines electrical particle charging with liquid cleaning of the collecting surfaces.

The contaminated gas enters the WESP through the inlet section and flows through the electrostatic treatment area. High-voltage discharge electrodes generate an electrical field that charges particles and droplets suspended in the gas.

After charging, the contaminants move toward the collecting electrodes under the influence of the electrical field. The collected material forms a deposit on the electrode surfaces and is removed by a water washing system.

The washing liquid flows along the collecting electrodes and carries the deposited particles and liquid contaminants toward the bottom of the equipment. The collected liquid is then directed to the drainage or wastewater handling section.

WESP equipment can be designed with tubular or plate-type collecting electrodes. The electrode arrangement, gas passage, washing system, and equipment dimensions are selected according to gas volume and pollutant characteristics.

For corrosive or high-moisture gas streams, suitable construction materials can be selected based on temperature, chemical composition, acidity, and chloride or other corrosive components.

A complete WESP can include the precipitation chamber, discharge and collecting electrodes, high-voltage power supply, washing system, drainage system, insulators, gas distribution components, monitoring instruments, and control equipment.

Main Components

  • WESP housing

  • Gas inlet and outlet

  • Discharge electrodes

  • Collecting electrodes

  • High-voltage power supply

  • Electrode support system

WESP Working Process

  1. Industrial exhaust enters the WESP.

  2. Gas passes through the electrical collection zone.

  3. Fine particles and droplets become electrically charged.

  4. Charged contaminants migrate to the collecting electrodes.

  5. Water washes accumulated deposits from the electrodes.

  6. Contaminated washing liquid flows into the drainage section.

  7. Treated gas leaves through the outlet.
