Wire Mesh Demister
Wire Mesh Demister
Wire Mesh Demister is a separation component used to remove entrained liquid from gas streams in process equipment. Its open mesh structure provides a large contact area within a relatively small installation space.
During operation, gas carrying liquid droplets flows through the wire mesh. The droplets are intercepted by the mesh filaments and remain temporarily on the wire surface. As additional droplets reach the same area, they combine into larger drops. Once the liquid reaches sufficient mass, it drains through the mesh under gravity and returns to the liquid collection area.
The demister can be assembled from knitted wire mesh formed into a defined thickness and density. The wire material may include stainless steel, nickel alloys, plastic, or other materials selected according to gas composition, operating temperature, and corrosion conditions.
Different construction parameters influence separation behavior. Wire diameter, mesh density, pad thickness, gas velocity, droplet size, and liquid loading should be considered when determining the appropriate configuration.
The demister can be installed horizontally or vertically depending on the process vessel and gas flow direction. Support and retaining grids are commonly used to prevent displacement of the mesh during operation.
