Wire Mesh Demister Pad
Wire Mesh Demister Pad
Wire Mesh Demister Pad is a gas-liquid separation element made from fine wire mesh. It is installed inside towers, scrubbers, separators, and other process vessels to reduce liquid droplets carried by a flowing gas.
The mesh forms a three-dimensional filtration path rather than a solid barrier. When the gas passes through the pad, entrained droplets encounter the wire strands and are retained on their surfaces. Continued contact causes the droplets to merge, increasing their size and allowing them to drain downward under gravity.
Wire material can be selected according to the process conditions. Stainless steel and other metal wires are suitable for applications involving elevated temperature or corrosive gas, while plastic mesh can be used for selected chemical environments and lower-temperature processes.
The separation characteristics depend on wire diameter, mesh density, pad thickness, gas velocity, liquid loading, and droplet size. A higher mesh density can provide more contact surface, while the pad must also allow sufficient gas passage to control pressure drop.
The demister pad is normally installed between support and retaining grids. Its external shape can be manufactured to match the internal geometry of the vessel, including circular, rectangular, annular, or segmented arrangements.
